Today we got the chance to surprise another lucky person with £2,000!
The Made in Bury £2,000 Weekly Draw has now been running for just over a year and as it’s still our Anniversary month, we were excited to surprise another winner! The Draw is all in aid of supporting start-up businesses in Bury through the Made in Bury Business Academy and providing interest-free loans.
This week, we surprised Peter Axon from Bury Council!
Peter has worked as a Street Mason at Bury Council for just over 25 years now! His role involves kerbing, flagging, block paving, highway maintenance and more. Thanks to Peter and the rest of the team at Bury Council, the streets of Bury are always kept in good condition!
Peter was a little bit difficult to track down with him working out and about, but with the help of the supervisor, Nev and a bit of plotting we managed to get an unexpecting Peter back to the base at Bradley Fold, where we surprised him with the £2,000 cheque!
When we asked him what he would be spending his winnings on, Peter joked that he might not get much of a say where his money goes, as his other half – or ‘the boss’ as Peter referred to her as would be deciding! As well as a treat for his wife, Peter said he would also treat his grandchildren.
The Made in Bury Weekly £2,000 Draw is a not for profit initiative that raises money to pay for the training and mentoring of start-up businesses in Bury. If you would like to enter, tickets are just £2 a week. There are only 2,400 tickets available – so make sure you enter soon if you would like to be in with a chance! The draw is open to anyone that owns or works for a business in Bury, plus friends and family!
